Ambitions and priorities for NITO orthopaedics in 2026
The professional group is well underway with this year's work and has big plans for this year. We arrange professional activities both on our own and in collaboration with organizations such as ISPO Norway and NOTF, and work purposefully to strengthen competence, collaboration and professional processes in the field of orthopedics.
Stay up to date
Political processes
Several important political processes are underway:
-
The government has appointed a committee to look at the revision of the National Insurance Act. The committee will work until 2027 before giving its recommendations.
-
The Health Reforum Committee is working on proposals for the organisation of the health service, including areas of responsibility and funding.
The expert group follows these processes closely, with support from NITO's political department, and they will take a lot of focus in 2026.
Internship for Orthopedic Engineers
We expect further work aimed at the internship service, and have submitted a consultation input in 2025.
The Grey Zone Committee
We have held a meeting of the Grey Zone Committee, which consists of OVL, NITO Orthopedics and NAV, where grey area elements are discussed. The meeting addressed three topics:
-
Corset for idiopathic scoliosis
-
Wound orthoses for patients with diabetic foot ulcers
-
Prefabricated solutions
All these groups of assistive devices have recently been rejected, without any changes in administrative practice being disclosed. We shed light on the purpose of the assistive devices for economics, functional remediation and efficiency in the health service.
NAV wants to discuss the issue further with the Ministry of Labour and Social Inclusion. OVL and NITO orthopaedics emphasized that this was urgent, as the rejections apply to applications submitted about six months ago.
Academic activities and collaborations
We have several activities and events planned:
-
Participation in Kongsberg Agenda in collaboration with NITO, and the opportunity to participate in Arendalsuka
-
Preparation of information material for Momentum, with presentation during the anniversary weekend
-
Increased dialogue with the Danish Orthopedic Surgeons and the Swedish Orthopedic Engineers' Association, with participation in their professional events
-
Representatives will attend OT World for inspiration for future conferences
As usual, we also participate in permanent councils and committees, such as the Liaison Committee for Subjects and Education and the National Professional Body.
