Secure AI in the construction industry - free workshop on AI for the construction industry

Secure AI in the construction industry - in practice

How can AI help you with tasks that are specific to the construction industry? We show you how work with requests, tender work and minutes is solved efficiently. The starting point will be the use of local AI, but the principles are general.

Secure AI in the construction industry - in practice

We start from request/tender/quotation processes and create work processes adapted to AI that will also have a useful value after the workshop. The principles we review will also apply to other text-based activities in your business.

Together with Henning Firman from Creo Digital, you will work with examples from the construction industry. We use AI to:

  • Extract information and structure an RFQ
  • Prepare company-specific properties relevant to the request
  • Writing Quotes

You get to see how the choice of documentation and clear instructions affect the answer. We also investigate what can go wrong: A reservation can disappear in a summary, or the model can suggest a deadline that was never agreed. Therefore, we practice checking the result against the original document.
Local AI is part of the practical work. Here, the model is run on a computer or server in the company. With a setup without external services, the project material can be processed internally. We look at what this requires in terms of equipment, software and access management, and what tasks it makes sense to start with.
The goal  is for you to understand what principles must be in place to get workflows that everyone has access to, and that are executed the same every time.

Note: The workshop takes place at Quben in Kongsberg, and there is only the opportunity for physical participation.

About the Professional Network and this workshop

What is the Professional Network for AI in NITO?

The Professional Network for Artificial Intelligence at NITO is a meeting place for members who want to learn, share experiences and discuss the use of AI. The network embraces both generative AI and other forms of artificial intelligence.

As of 22 September 2026, the network has over 1250 members. It is led by a professional group of seven people for the period 2026–2028 (requires login as a NITO member to view the page).

From the autumn of 2026, the network will establish physical meeting places in several places in the country, starting in Kongsberg.

It is free for NITO members to participate in the network. You can sign up on the professional network's website.

Who is this workshop suitable for?

If you are a NITO member and work with design, consultancy, project management or technical documentation in the construction industry. You have tried AI before and want to use it more specifically on tasks from your own working day.

The workshop builds on "Local AI lab: Run your own AI" under Kongsberg Agenda 2026. You do not need to have participated there to participate.

What can I expect to get out of this workshop?

Knowledge – you get insight into:

  • Which document tasks AI can support in a construction project.
  • What it means to run an AI model on your own equipment.
  • Why AI responses need to be checked for errors, omissions, and loss of reservations.

Skills – you will get practice in:

  • give the model a delimited task with relevant documentation and the desired response format
  • prepare draft requirements overviews, action lists and summaries
  • check key information in the AI response against the source

General competence – you will be better equipped to:

  • choose a specific task that is suitable for further testing
  • Assess the benefit against the time you spend on preparation and control
  • Clarify what data and results you can use within the framework of the business

You will also meet other engineers and technologists who want to use AI, and will have the opportunity to exchange experiences and make professional contacts.

Local AI - what exactly is it and what are the consequences?

Local AI means that the AI model runs on your own computer or on a server in the company. With a suitable setup, documents, questions and answers can be processed without having to be sent to an external AI service.

Your own operation of AI can also take place on a rented server from a supplier. In this case, "self-hosted AI" is a more precise term. You can control the model, access and data flow within the supplier's framework. Security depends on how the entire solution is set up and managed.

An important difference lies in the tools around the model. Ready-made services such as ChatGPT have functions for document management and file creation, among other things. A local language model alone does not automatically give you the same toolbox. If it is to read project documents, search subject documents or create a PDF, the solution must support this.

There are ready-made solutions for local operations, but you still need to clarify what functions you need, what capacity is required, and who is responsible for updates, access, and quality assurance.

At the workshop, we look at what these differences mean in practice, and what needs to be in place to use AI on tasks from one's own working day.
