It is now required by law to have liability insurance for electric scooters. See what you need to know about the new rules and what kind of insurance you need to have.
Electric scooters are now classified as "small electric motor vehicles" and are covered by the Motor Liability Act. This means that all electric scooters that travel between 10-20 km/h must have liability insurance - just like cars.
Insurance obligation: All electric scooters that can drive between 10-20 km/h must have statutory liability insurance.
If you have not taken out the statutory liability insurance in the event of an accident, you are responsible for the compensation amounts. Something you can be sentenced to pay, and which can amount to large sums of money.
As a NITO member, you get a 30 percent discount on a number of insurances. The electric scooter insurance from Tryg includes the statutory liability insurance that covers up to NOK 100 million on property damage and unlimited on personal injuries.
