Can KI secure my dream job?
Career expert at NITO, Kim Sørensen, shares his best tips on how to land your dream job with artificial intelligence (AI).
The use of ChatGPT in job application processes has increased significantly recently, and has now become a common aid among job seekers. A quick Google search for tips on pre-written job applications with artificial intelligence yields several thousand hits, which illustrates the great interest.
Public services have also adopted such solutions. On karriereveiledning.no, you can, for example, enter text from a job advertisement and your CV, and have a draft of an application generated. This makes it both easier and faster to get started with the application process," explains Kim Sørensen, career counsellor at NITO.
Encourages the use of AI
NITO's job search team helps many members on their way to a new job every year through, among other things, individual CV and application assistance. Here, they see increasing use of AI to create application texts.
- Experience shows that the tool is good for building up a selling application text, says Sørensen.
However, she points out that AI-generated application texts must be seen as first drafts and that the texts require processing to bring out the applicant's personality. Often, AI-generated texts can be characterized by a language and expression that is not common in Norway, as the language models are mainly based on American and English language and culture, Sørensen explains.
The CV is still important
- Work with the information on your CV, Sørensen points out.
It is more important to have correct and supplementary information on the CV than the application, she advises. But both documents must be able to stand alone. And they must be consistent with each other also linguistically.

5 tips for you who are looking for a job:
- Use AI as a starting point: Look at AI-generated application texts as a first draft. These can provide a good structure and ideas for content, but it is important to further develop the text with your own words and formulations.
- In your application, you should explain early on why you are the right candidate for the position, focusing on how your experience and skills can contribute to the company, rather than focusing too much on your own career development.
- It is important that you ensure that there is a clear connection and linguistic match between your CV and your job application. A big difference in style and content can give the impression of being unprofessional.
- Prioritize the information on the CV: Although a good application is important, it is often the CV that is given the most weight. Make sure your resume is up-to-date, relevant, and includes the right information.
- Prepare thoroughly for the interview. As AI tools become more common in the application process, interviews and tests become more important. Think carefully about what you want to convey and how you want to appear.
