Mental health at work is important

Good mental health is crucial for both well-being, the working environment and productivity. NITO is noticing an increasing demand from members who are in demanding situations in the workplace.

When employees feel good, they perform better, collaborate well and contribute to a positive and inclusive work environment.

"Unfortunately, some people experience stress, pressure, a poor working environment or conflicts with management or colleagues, which can have a negative impact on their mental health," says Farah Ali, Head of Legal Affairs at NITO.

See the figures below for the number of cases NITO lawyers have received regarding the working environment.

The vast majority of these cases belong to the subcategory of conflict cases.

Valuable to have supporters

In many cases, these are not necessarily legal matters, but challenging situations where it can be valuable to have someone to consult with and get support from.

For example, this may apply to difficult conversations, disagreements about the work situation, experiences of a lack of facilitation, or relationship challenges in the workplace. In such situations, it is important to be taken seriously and receive support.

"As a member of NITO, we therefore encourage you to contact union representatives at the workplace if you need support or someone to talk to. Union representatives often have experience with such issues and can assist with advice, support and guidance," says Ali.

If you do not have a union representative at work, it may also be useful to contact the safety representative if there is one at the workplace.
