Can work on larger projects after project management courses

Christoffer took the project management 2 programme alongside his job as a project manager. Now he feels more reflected in his job, and after good feedback from his employer, he gets the opportunity to work on larger and more complex projects.

Registration: Project Management 2

NITO member Christoffer Snaprud Christensen works as a project manager for Store Norske in Svalbard. There he has worked for four years with the management, development and development of residential and commercial buildings. The Project Management 2 programme – a collaboration between NITO and OsloMet – has given him more theoretical weight in his job.

"Even though I was already working as a project manager in practice, I was interested in learning what happens on a theoretical level. Where Project Management 1 gave me the tools, Project Management 2 really gave me theoretical meat on the bone," says Christensen.

Works well in combination with work

Where Project Management 1 provides a basic and broad introduction to project management and management, Project Management 2 takes you a step further and deeper. Here it is more about you as a project manager and the people you lead.

Both studies run over one semester and give 10 credits.

"Unlike Project Management 1, the cases we work with in Project Management 2 are developed by the study, and not examples from our own work. Nevertheless, throughout the course of my studies, I experienced that I needed experience from working in my studies, and knowledge from my studies in my job," says Christensen.

Awareness of one's own role

In Project Management 2, the students work in their own teams, which provides a practice-based experience of project work. This not only provides experience with collaboration in practice, but also an important basis for reflection and learning about one's own role, team dynamics and leadership.

- I have become more aware of my own role and become more reflective. This is important, as there can be many points of contact during a project, and you must be able to communicate well with everyone," says Christensen.

Can work on larger projects

As a result of her studies, Christensen has had the opportunity to lead larger projects.

 - Along the way, I have received good feedback from my immediate manager, who says that he has noticed a professional development in my work. I have also had the opportunity to work on larger and more complex projects.

Sign up if you are motivated

Together, the studies provide a comprehensive competence package that strengthens both the understanding and skills you need in project work – regardless of industry.

In short: Where Project Management 1 gives you the tools, Project Management 2 gives you the training to use them with others – and develops you as a project manager.

- This is not just a small course, but a real study that can potentially be built on to a master's in management. If you are motivated, the studies are highly recommended. For me, it was about a desire for development," says Christensen.
