Victory for Akademikerne and NITO in the National Salary Tribunal
Akademikerne and Unio will have their main collective agreement with the state extended. "All in all, we have achieved the result we had hoped for, and we are very pleased that the National Salary Tribunal has both listened to and understood our arguments," says Kristian Botnen, head of NITO stat.
In brief, the Tribunal concludes that the current Basic Collective Agreement between Akademikerne and the state will continue until 30 April 2026.
- It is negotiated locally within a framework of 2.7 percent of the wage base.
- The negotiations must be concluded by 15 February 2025.
- The effective date for the settlement is set for 2 June 2024, which was the last day of the strike.
- This is common practice in such cases, and even though we would like to have an effective date of 1 May, this is something we are fine with, says Kristian Botnen, head of NITO Stat.
- All in all, we have achieved the result we had hoped for, and we are very pleased that the National Salary Tribunal has both listened to and understood our arguments.
Free negotiations are still the solution
- We also note that the National Salary Board's neutral members in several places in the ruling highlight the point that the need for changes to the Basic Collective Agreement should be resolved in negotiations between the parties. For us, this is completely self-evident, and we are pleased that the tribunal is clear about this," says Kristian Botnen.
- Our biggest concern this autumn has been precisely this about still having a real right to negotiate in the state. The National Salary Board's ruling has given us a continued opportunity to negotiate wages and working conditions for our members, based on a basic collective agreement that we ourselves have accepted. Not one that hasn't been trampled over our heads.
Financial framework in line with the frontline profession
The total framework for the wage settlement is in line with the frontline trade. When overhang and estimated slippage are deducted, 2.7 per cent is to be distributed in local negotiations.
The way forward
- Now we have a result, and we can start the job out there locally. There, we will distribute this year's salary funds based on local wage policy and local negotiations between union representatives and employers," says Botnen.

Adjusted salary and back pay for this year's settlement will come after local negotiations are completed, Botnen explains.
- We will also be able to continue the work of further developing our collective agreement through exchanges of experience, demands preparation and new negotiations in the main settlement in the
