Climate partnership between the trade unions, the state and the process industry signed
An important step towards a greener future was taken in Lillestrøm.
On 9 January, the social partners signed a historic climate partnership agreement. The representatives were from the government and the employee and employer side in the process industry. The signing took place at Dynea AS in Lillestrøm.
The agreement, which was signed by Minister of Trade and Industry Cecilie Myrseth and Minister of Climate and Environment Andreas Bjelland Eriksen, represents close cooperation between the state and industry to promote emission cuts and energy efficiency. NITO, together with other key trade unions such as the Federation of Norwegian Industries, the Norwegian Federation of Trade Unions, Industri Energi, Tekna and Negotia, has committed to working towards clear climate goals.
"Engineers and technologists are central to this transition. Through innovation and technology development, they contribute to solutions that cut emissions and create value.
The agreement is an important step towards a greener Norway that preserves the competitiveness of the industry. We at NITO are proud to contribute to a solution that is not only good for the climate, but also for Norwegian value creation and jobs. This is tripartite cooperation at its best.
Kjetil Lein, NITO president.
The agreement means that the process industry aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 55% by 2030 compared to 1990, and to be climate neutral by 2050. At the same time, value creation from manufacturing will increase. This requires access to more renewable energy, increased recycling rates and the development of new technology.
With this agreement, NITO and the rest of the process industry in Norway have taken a big step towards a more sustainable future.
