NITO's national meeting highlights the role of engineers in defence, industry and health

At NITO's national meeting, representatives from all over Norway will discuss how engineers can contribute with solutions in defence, industry and health.

The national meeting is an arena where the organization's union representatives set the agenda for the future. It is held every year in the years between the congress, and this year almost 70 NITO union representatives will gather in Oslo on 26 – 27 November.

-Gathering in this way gives energy to our members. At the AGM, the representatives will have plenty of time to share knowledge, while we will be inspired by external speakers on stage," says NITO President Kjetil Lein.

This year, the guests will inspire professional group work on the topics of working life, defence, industry and health.

The politics around us

President Kjetil Lein opens the programme, followed by State Secretary Line Eldring in the Ministry of Labour and Social Inclusion.

There will be a conversation between political commentator Magnus Takvam and former members of parliament Sivert Bjørnstad (Progress Party) and Jette Christensen (Labour Party).

NITO's Head of Communications Arne Vatnøy will, among other things, challenge the panel on how the political situation today will affect NITO's core areas.

A changing working life

The Norwegian labour market model is facing major changes related to globalisation, digitalisation and new forms of ownership and organisation. Sissel Trygstad from FAFO begins with findings from the book The Norwegian Working Life Model – status and challenges in a time of change.

Defence and health

On day two of the AGM, participants will receive inspiring presentations on the defence industry and health. Lars Huse, Major General and Head of the Planning and Development Department in the Defence Staff, and Sunniva Tofte from KONGSBERG will begin the group work on the role of engineers in emergency preparedness.

Health technology is on the agenda, and Karl Kristian Bekeng, State Secretary in the Ministry of Health and Care Services, will open this section at the AGM. After his presentation, we get some considerations from Karita Bekkemellem, director of NHO Geneo.
