Say yes to your space, become an engineer
24 July is the deadline for accepting offers from the Norwegian Universities and Colleges Admission Service. "62 per cent of Norwegian employers say there will be an increased need for engineers in the future. Say yes to your engineering studies, encourages Sofie Strøm Olsen, leader of NITO Students.
According to NITO's Needs Survey, 62 per cent of employers expect an increasing need for engineers over the next three years.
"To become an engineer is to choose a profession for the future. If you have chosen to do so, you get to help solve some of the world's biggest challenges. And not least, you will help create jobs for the future, so that Norway can continue to be the welfare state it is today," says Sofie Strøm Olsen, leader of the more than 15,000 students who have chosen to organize themselves in NITO.
Crucial for the green shift
The needs survey shows that there will be a particularly high demand for expertise in the classical engineering disciplines. Civil engineering is most in demand, while ICT/computer, electrical, machinery, automation and electronics are also important subject areas.
"These disciplines are necessary in all innovation and development. The knowledge you gain from engineering and technology studies is essential to manage the green shift. An engineering education is an education that will always be needed.
Sofie Strøm Olsen encourages everyone who has applied for engineering studies to accept when they receive an offer from the Norwegian Universities and Colleges Admission Service.
"It's a profession for the future," she believes.
