NITO supports the TV campaign with more than NOK 116,000

NITO participates in NRK P3 stunt in support of this year's TV campaign.

Bioingeniør Ingvild Eide tar stikkprøver og sjekker laktatnivået på syklistene til NRK P3.

NITO contributes one krone per member, a total of NOK 116,504, to this year's TV campaign, which supports the Atlas Alliance. The donation will help people with disabilities in countries such as Palestine, Ukraine and Ethiopia with health services, assistive devices and inclusion.

Tour de P3 is NRK P3's new version of the fundraising campaign (formerly known as the P3 campaign). Instead of being locked in a studio, the presenters Anna Nor Sørensen, Sindre Reinholt and Jonas Bergløv cycle from Oslo to Bergen on road bikes.

Important to show the biomedical laboratory technicians

Bioengineer Ingvild Eide handed over the check after having carried out a lactate measurement on the participants in NRK P3's "Tour de P3", a bike ride from Oslo to Bergen to collect money for this year's TV campaign.

In the stunt, Eide measured the lactate level in the blood of the presenters after hard cycling on a spinning bike. This shows that biomedical laboratory technicians have a role in society as a whole, both in the health service and in sports.

"It is not quite common to measure lactate in cyclists; But for patients, this is part of our important health service. With a little humor, we highlight our field and highlight the breadth of the profession," says Eide, and explains why it is important to show off in this way:

"It's shameful that many people don't know what a biomedical laboratory technician does, or how important we are to the patients at the hospital. Without biomedical laboratory scientists, the hospital would not have gone around because doctors depend on our quality-assured test results to provide the best possible treatment. As many as two out of three medical decisions are made on the basis of a test result.

After handing over the check, there was no doubt that NITO is good at creating visibility. For several years, we have supported good causes like this, while at the same time promoting the profession. I hope this will be a good start to Tour de P3 for the participants, and that we contribute to a good cause.

An important cause for NITO to support

NITO President Kjetil Lein (pictured) praises the initiative. He emphasizes that it is NITO's biomedical laboratory technicians and other health technologists who contribute with analyses and are crucial to the doctors' work.

"NITO's long-term commitment to supporting the TV campaign in this way is absolutely outstanding, and NITO Institute of Biomedical Sciences contributes every single year with stunts that create a good atmosphere and provide good visibility for the profession.

"Now I encourage everyone who wants to get involved to become a gun bearer or support the campaign in other ways," he concludes.
