Digitizing
NITO is the choice of technologists and our members will play a key role in the introduction of new digital systems and artificial intelligence in the workplace. We are technology optimists who see great room for manoeuvre within a responsible and knowledge-based framework.
- NITO believes that the increasing digital threat landscape requires the government to facilitate and prioritize for a greater degree of digital sovereignty.

NITO's digital priorities
In order for digitalisation and artificial intelligence to strengthen Norwegian working life and society, NITO believes that there must be a focus on responsible introduction of AI, robust digital infrastructure and increased digital sovereignty. Here are our key requirements and recommendations.
Digitalisation and introduction of AI
- When AI is introduced, the social partners must be involved so that employees' rights are safeguarded when efficiency gains are stipulated and attempts are made to realise.
- AML §8-2 must be used actively to safeguard the rights of employees when the organisation or scope of work changes, and when there will be a shift in tasks from man to machine.
- The public agencies must be an important premise setter for the digitalisation of their own activities, and have financial room for manoeuvre in the digitalisation process of their own services.
- AI will streamline production and services and strengthen Norwegian labour, but responsible and ethical introduction and use must be ensured through tripartite cooperation.
Infrastructure and digital solutions
- Further development of a nationwide, redundant and robust broadband network must be prioritised.
- New data centers must be built close to where power and natural cooling are available, and with sufficient capacity to meet national needs in AI and digitalization.
Safety and security
- Norwegian public cloud solutions can contribute to both local value creation and secure storage of data.
- Critical digital services must be located in secure data centers and the operation of critical functions must be located on servers physically located in Norway and be subject to Norwegian law.
