You don't have to have engineer in your title. The common denominator for the members? Technological or engineering expertise – and a need to have a supporter in working life.
One organization – many careers
Over the past 90 years, working life has changed dramatically. New titles appear, old ones disappear. NITO follows developments and organises members across industries and job levels.
This means that you can start as a laboratory engineer, become a project manager, move on to become a technology advisor or IT architect – and still have NITO as your organisation. Many managers are also NITO members.

If you are in doubt about whether you can become a member, or are directly rejected when you apply to become a member, contact us at NITO. Our admissions team will be happy to take a closer look at your particular case. First of all, you can contact the NITO union representative at your workplace, who will be able to write a letter of recommendation that you can attach to the registration.
Kristel Bredahl (pictured) is a NITO union representative at the Fire and Rescue School in Harstad. She has several examples of how it pays to have a recommendation attached. - If you have a technological background and work today as if you are an engineer, but lack the formal engineering education, then you may still be eligible for NITO membership, she says.
Bredahl has written letters of recommendation for several of his colleagues. Here, the technological background and expertise are emphasized, and it is told about the environment in which the person in question works. This is a way to get more explained about your background and job situation and that can contribute to membership.
