The course is for you who are new as a union representative, or who need to refresh your knowledge.

What you'll learn

NITO Intro 2 is course two out of three in NITO's basic training for new union representatives. After the course, you will be left with basic knowledge of

  • Salary and negotiations
  • co-determination, legislation and agreements
  • Cooperation with management
  • How to assist members who ask for help
  • The annual cycle as a useful tool in the company group

Throughout the course, you will work on specific cases together with others.

New union representatives who have taken the course before you highlight both concrete knowledge and the exchange of experience with the other union representatives as one of the best things about the course – join you too!

Program

Day 1

During the day, we will visit how to work in the company group, the Norwegian model, co-determination and how to handle inquiries from management.

10.00: Arrival, coffee, light refreshments
10.30: Start of academic programme
12.00: Lunch
17.15: End of academic programme
18.30: Joint departure from the hotel for social program and dinner 

Day 2

On day two, we continue to share experiences on how we can best provide assistance to members before we turn our focus to salaries around lunch. Salary policy, strategy and how we prepare for salary negotiations are topics for the rest of the day.

09.00: Start-up
12.00: Lunch
18.30: End of the academic program
20.00: Dinner at the hotel

Day 3

On the last day, we are fully focused on salary negotiations:
- How do we plan a negotiation?
- How does a salary negotiation take place in practice?
- What tactics are we proposing?
- When should we consider breaking off the negotiations?

Finally, we gather threads, look at what we have learned and what is the way forward.

15.00: End of the academic program – well home!

Maxitaxis are set up to the airport for those who need it. The earliest possible flight is at 16.45.

Practical information

  • You can get time off work to attend courses - remember to apply for time off as early as possible.
  • The course is free of charge – NITO covers expenses for both travel and accommodation. You will receive information about ordering by email.
  • If you have extra expenses for babysitting or if you get time off without pay, you can get the expenses reimbursed.
  • The course runs over three days. You stay overnight at the course hotel no matter how far away you live. We use the time together to build networks, exchange experiences and culture building with a pleasant, informal setting.
