NITO members are invited to a pleasant evening with a sauna and swimming opportunities.
Both the raft and the sauna itself are partly built from recycled materials from old buildings, both from Longyearbyen and Svea, and are a collaborative project between the Oslo School of Architecture and Design, LPO Architects and Longyearbyen. There is literally a lot of local history in the walls – and a good example of circular economy.
Practical information
The sauna is booked for groups and there is a limited number of places.
Where is the sauna located?
Longyearbyen Harbour.
Drinks
Bring your own drinks.
Towel
Bring two towels, one to sit on and one to dry yourself with.
Wardrobe and shower
Wardrobe is available, with a small cubicle to change in. Unfortunately, there is no shower available in winter, but it is allowed to fill the bucket with water from the sauna to rinse yourself. Toilets are available at Bykaia.
Swimwear
Swimwear is mandatory in the sauna.
A safe experience...
- You are responsible for your own safety
- If you feel unwell, dizzy or sleepy while in the sauna, leave the sauna immediately
- The deck outside the sauna can be wet and slippery
- There is rescue equipment and first aid equipment available on the floating dock
- Never swim alone – the water is cold. Always have someone watching nearby when you swim
- Do not jump from the pier, there are mooring links in the water below the surface
- You are responsible for your own valuables
