Join us in walking across Norway and experience magnificent nature, exciting railway history and the feeling of walking through a living piece of Norwegian cultural heritage.
The trip combines train travel on the Ofot Railway, hiking through spectacular scenery and return by boat and bus.
Along the way, you follow the historic Navvy Road, built in connection with the construction of the Ofot Railway. Here you will experience magnificent scenery, cascading waterfalls, deep valleys and exciting cultural monuments from both the construction of the railway and the history of war.
The walk ends in Rombaksbotn, a former construction community that played an important role during the construction of the Ofot Line. Although the settlement is gone today, the traces in the landscape tell a fascinating story of life in the area over a hundred years ago.
This is a unique day trip that combines nature, history and a sense of mastery, and gives you the opportunity to experience Norway across in a very special way.

Practical information
- The trip is reserved for members of NITO
- Meet at Narvik Station at 10.00, the train leaves at 10.29
- Arrive at Riksgrensen about 11.23 and then the walk begins
- The trip is about 18 km
- Down in Rombaksbotnen, there will be a rib boat out a bit in the fjord, before it will be a bus/taxi back to Narvik
- Bring packed lunches for a long day in the mountains, hot and cold drinks
- Wear clothes according to the weather and change of clothes. It's a good idea to wear a down jacket, hats and mittens in the mountains in September.
- Good hiking shoes are recommended
- There will be a guide on the tour who will tell you about the road and the historical places that are passed
- Back in Narvik at about 18.00, so it will be a long day on the trip
- Out for a walk, never grumpy!
