Why should I have accident insurance?
An accident can just as well happen on a mountain hike as on the way to work or school. If you are injured as a result of an accident, accident insurance can provide compensation for the costs of medical treatment and for permanent medical disability.

According to the Norwegian Institute of Public Health, more than 300,000 people are injured every year, and the most common injuries occur in accidents at home and during leisure activities.

If you have accident insurance, you will receive financial help for both short-term and long-term injuries.

Fracture injuries
According to Tryg Forsikring's injury figures, typical accident injuries occur when you fall over on a bicycle, fall on skis or slip on stairs," says Therese Nielsen Haugland, Product Manager at Tryg Forsikring.
If you get a complicated fracture in a shin bone, this can affect work and health over time. If you have NITO Extended Accident Insurance, you will receive up to NOK 10,000 in compensation through the bone fracture cover. In addition, you can have treatment expenses covered, which can quickly amount to a few thousand kroner.
- If the foot is permanently injured, you will also be able to receive compensation for permanent medical disability. This will be clarified when the case has been processed and the damage has been assessed as stable," says the product specialist.

Compensation from the accident insurance in the event of permanent injury
If you are unlucky and are diagnosed with permanent medical disability after an accident injury, such as chronic pain after a bone fracture or a torn cruciate ligament, accident insurance is good to have.
An accident injury can result in varying degrees of permanent damage, which in turn affects how much compensation from an insurance policy can provide. The degree of medical disability is determined by a doctor/specialist on the basis of the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs' disability table.
