Scholarship Skills Development 2026 – Private Sector
NITO awards competence development grants to members employed by NHO companies. The grant must be used in 2026, and the employer must contribute financially. The application deadline is 6 November 2026 November 202.
What can you apply for?
You can apply for support for further education and formalised courses/training.
Who can apply
You can apply if you are a NITO member and work in a company where the agreement between NITO and NHO is valid.
Both individuals and groups of members can apply.
The scholarship will be used for competence development that benefits NITO's members in the private sector (NHO area).
How much can you apply for
You can apply for up to NOK 25,000 in scholarships for a single study.
You can only receive a grant for the same study programme once. Applicants who have not previously received a grant will be given priority.
The grant will be used to cover syllabus books, other literature, and tuition fees. You cannot use the grant to purchase electronic aids such as a computer, or to cover lost wages while studying.
The employer must contribute financially, and competence development must take place during 2026.
What should the application contain
The application for a scholarship must include:
- What kind of competence development you are planning
- Why you need this competence development, preferably with documentation if possible
- Time Frame
- A simple budget that shows what it will cost
- That you have talked to your employer about the content and the plan for competence development
- Your employer must also provide financial support. In the application, you must therefore explain how and how much your employer contributes.

Guidelines for the allocation of competence development grants in the NHO area
1. Purpose
The scholarships will be used for skills development for the benefit of NITO's members in the private sector (NHO area) and in agreement with the companies.
Competence development can take place through formalised courses, further education or formalised training.
2. Board of Directors
Competence development grants for the NHO agreement area are led by NITO's Executive Board, delegated to NITO private (the NHO agreement area). A committee among NITO private's members decides whether the grant is to be awarded each year.
The committee processes applications and awards scholarships.
3. Who can apply
Those who can apply for scholarships are:
- NITO members employed in the company where the collective agreement between NITO and NHO is applicable.
- Both individual members and groups of members.
A scholarship is awarded a maximum of once for a course of study.
4. Announcement of the scholarships
The announcement of the scholarships usually takes place in the 3rd quarter of each year and is announced on NITO's website.
5. Application
The application for a grant must include:
- Planned competence development.
- Justified and, if applicable, documented need for the desired competence development.
- Which time frame is relevant.
- That the employer is consulted regarding the content and arrangements for competence development.
- In what way the employer itself will provide support for this.
It is a requirement that the employer also contributes financially.
An application with justification and a simple budget is sent .
6. Finances
NHO and NITO have agreed to establish an information and development fund with the purpose of implementing or supporting measures to promote information and education in Norwegian business and industry, primarily on issues that are of importance to NITO's members in the NHO area.
NITO in the private agreement area will use part of its share of the fund funds for the distribution of grants. Item 2.
The maximum sum for individual grants is NOK. 25 000,-.
7. Report
No later than 1 month after the completion of the competence development for which the grant provided support, the research fellow must submit a report to NITO on the use and benefits of the grant.
8. Practicalities
When and in what way the granted grant is to be paid is agreed between NITO and the research fellow.
All costs must be legitimised. Lost earnings are not covered, nor are the purchase of digital tools such as software and hardware.
