Kasper S. Karlsen sowing in front of a moss wall on NMBU campus

The crash course that changed everything before the exam

Kasper lacked an overview before the exam, and on a crash course he got the explanations he had been missing, and the confidence he needed to go into the exam period with control.

He gained control when he participated in NITO's crash course. There he found both structure and a lecturer who understood what the students needed before the exam.

Kasper S. Karlsen is in his second year at Indøk at NMBU. He first started as a computer engineering student at NTNU, but switched because he wanted less programming and a more holistic perspective. Today, he is very pleased with the choice of Indøk.

During a hectic exam period, it can feel stressful to set aside several hours for a course. Kasper believes that the gain from crash courses is so great that it should be prioritized.

More than the syllabus: People, talk and food

- The fact that we got food along the way means that you don't really spend that much extra time. You had spent that time cooking anyway. At the same time, it's super educational, and a nice break from sitting alone. You meet others, talk a little, ask questions. I think that's very healthy in the middle of the exam period," Kasper points out.

"Crash courses are definitely worth signing up for. It may seem a bit stressful to go to a course in the middle of the exam period, but it's a matter of four hours, usually an afternoon where you actually have some free space, says Kasper.

Course instructor at the same level provides better understanding

Kasper experienced the course itself as both structured and relaxed.

The pace was not too fast, and there was time set aside for breaks and questions. It gave room to actually digest the material that was presented.

"The lecturer was very good, even though he was not a 'proper' lecturer. He was able to answer the questions he was asked there and then, and that made the course very useful," says Kasper.

- At the same time, the course was not super intense. There was plenty of time, a good atmosphere, long breaks, and we had the opportunity to ask questions, if there was anything we were wondering about, says Kasper.

  • If you have the opportunity to join a crash course, sign up. You get professional replenishment, better understanding and feel less alone in the run-up. This makes the exam period a little less heavy.
