NITO and NHO negotiate new collective agreement
On Tuesday 22 September, NITO and NHO will start negotiations on a new collective agreement. The agreement sets an important framework for members' pay and working conditions, and for how wages are to be negotiated locally in the companies.
The collective agreement is the collective agreement between NITO and the employers' organisation NHO. It regulates, among other things, working hours, overtime and the framework for how wages are determined locally. It also contains provisions on social benefits and life-phase policy. It does not determine the salary of the individual, but is intended to help ensure that wage settlements in the enterprises are carried out in an orderly and predictable manner.
The NHO collective agreement applies to 28,000 of NITO's almost 55,000 members in the private sector. It is thus the collective agreement that applies to most of NITO's members. It can be renegotiated every two years.
Will strengthen local negotiations, life-phase policy and participation
NITO's demands have been adopted by the central collective bargaining committee in NITO Privat. The demands are based on the experience of union representatives who use the agreement on a daily basis, who see what the members need.
"We are concerned with how local negotiations are conducted, but also with life-stage politics. It is important that working life allows for needs to change throughout working life. It can be about combining work with care responsibilities, developing one's skills or getting a good transition to the end of working life," says Yngve Sjølset, head of the collective bargaining committee at NITO Privat.
We see that the introduction of AI can affect the employees' working day. Therefore, we want to discuss with NHO how union representatives can be involved in a good way in such processes.
NITO will also address how artificial intelligence affects workplaces. New AI solutions can change both tasks and the way work is organised. It is therefore important that the employee representatives are involved.
"We see that the introduction of AI can affect the employees' everyday work. Therefore, we want to discuss with NHO how union representatives can be involved in a good way in such processes," says Sjølset.
The details are kept between the parties while they negotiate
NITO and NHO do not publish the demands or other details while the negotiations are ongoing. This gives the parties room to discuss solutions and negotiate on the whole. NITO will inform the members when the negotiations have been concluded and the result is clear.
Three days have been set aside for the negotiations, with a deadline of midnight on Thursday 24 September. If NITO and NHO do not reach an agreement, the settlement will go to mediation.
