Election processes in NITO - tools for nomination committees

NITO's nomination committees help set the direction for the future. Through work in a nomination committee, you, together with the committee, make a comprehensive assessment of the candidates. The nomination committee's tasks, election processes and what tools you have at your disposal in a nomination committee in NITO can be found here.

What are the tasks of a nomination committee in NITO?

The nomination committee recommends good teams, which work well together, complement each other and bring us forward. Union representatives and members all have an opportunity to propose candidates and contribute to good, open and democratic election processes.

Get involved in NITO (Article)

NITO's skilled, committed union representatives are ambassadors for the organisation. They create good results for their members and contribute to our development as an organization. The nomination committee's task is to make it possible for us to elect union representatives who continue this.

The nomination committees shall propose boards, councils, committees and committees in NITO in a manner that:

  • strives for teams that complement each other, collaborate well and bring NITO forward
  • ensure that the candidates who are nominated together have the necessary competence needed for the tasks to be performed
  • take into account the breadth of NITO's membership. They shall assess age composition, renewal and continuity, gender composition, as well as geographical and collective agreement affiliation where relevant

Tools for election committees

We have collected questions, forms and texts that various nomination committees in NITO have used in the past. For inspiration, cut and paste.

Are you a member of the congress election committee, the election committee for central collective bargaining conferences, or the election committee in one of NITO's departments? Then you have access to a Teams room for your nomination committee, and a separate supporter in the secretariat. This can, among other things, help the committee with contact information for relevant candidates.

Where do you find candidates?

You can find candidates and tell them that you are looking for candidates at various meeting places for NITO members and union representatives. It can be at the coffee machine, at a member meeting or at a course.

Commitment and motivation are important. Look at who has participated in courses and events. If you are a member of a nomination committee that will find candidates in addition to your own business, you can ask for help from your supporter in the secretariat. They have access to tools to find potential candidates.

What requirements and expectations should you set for the candidates?

The nomination committees must clarify and highlight the requirements and expectations that candidates meet when they stand for election in NITO:

  • Tasks to be solved and use of time
  • Characteristics and interests
  • Willingness to stand out as a good NITO ambassador

This will vary depending on the type of board or committee. Information about tasks and responsibilities for each organisational level/level is set out in the NITO Act, statutes for NITO's departments, as well as various guidelines and manuals. Contact with "sitting" boards and employees can also provide supplementary information about tasks and expectations.
