Do you have a valid authorisation as a biomedical laboratory scientist?

Are you a biomedical laboratory scientist and unsure whether your authorisation is valid? Here you will find information on how to check and update your authorization to ensure that you meet all the necessary requirements.

Why is authorization as a biomedical laboratory technician important?

As a biomedical laboratory scientist, it is essential to have a valid authorization in order to be able to carry out your profession legally and responsibly. It is your responsibility to ensure that you are registered in the Health Personnel Register (HPR). Authorisation ensures that you have the necessary expertise and meet the requirements of the authorities.

Check if you have authorisation

Do you have authorisation as a biomedical laboratory scientist, but not registered in the health personnel register?

Do you have papers showing that you are a publicly approved or authorised biomedical laboratory scientist?

  • Create an electronic version of your approval document.
  • Create an electronic version of your diploma from the biomedical laboratory science programme.
  • Submit application with all paperwork via Altinn.no. There, select the option "Restore authorization in HPR" under authentication type.

You will then be able to search again in the register and find your authorisation online after a few weeks. It is important that you follow up and check that you have been registered.

Do you lack authorisation as a biomedical laboratory scientist?

There will be some biomedical laboratory technicians who have never sent their exam papers to the county medical officer's office, the Norwegian Board of Health Supervision or the Directorate of Health. This means that the person in question has never been officially approved/authorised as a biomedical laboratory technician and must therefore apply for authorisation as a biomedical laboratory technician from the Directorate of Health. In order to work as a healthcare professional in Norway, you must have authorisation or a licence.
