Biomedical laboratory technician day - a day dedicated to biomedical laboratory technicians

Every year on 15 April, International Biomedical Laboratory Technician Day is celebrated, a day dedicated to highlighting and celebrating the important work of biomedical laboratory scientists. In 2025 and 2026, attention will be focused on the contribution of biomedical laboratory technicians to promoting sustainable laboratory services.

By marking the Biomedical Laboratory Technician Day, focus is placed on the significant development in the field of biomedical laboratory sciences. The day provides a platform to discuss new technologies, challenges, and solutions that could impact the future of healthcare globally.

Sustainable theme for Biomedical Laboratory Technician Day

To highlight how bioengineers promote sustainability, the International Federation of Biomedical Laboratory Science (IFBLS) has chosen that the theme for the International Biomedical Laboratory Science Day in both 2025 and 2026 will be "Biomedical Laboratory Scientists Promoting Sustainability in Clinical Diagnostics".

Translated into Norwegian, the topic is:

Biomedical laboratory technicians promote sustainable laboratory services.

This year's theme is new and focuses on innovative contributions from biomedical laboratory technicians to promote sustainable laboratory services and reduce waste from laboratory operations. This is crucial in a healthcare system characterised by an ageing population, fewer people working in the health sector and an increasingly unpredictable climate.

Did you know, for example, that drone transport of patient samples and blood products will become routine in the future? Or that, according to the specialist health service's report for corporate social responsibility 2023, there was a total amount of waste from the health trusts in the four regions of 4550 tonnes (waste from the construction projects was not included in this data basis).
