NITO BFI's Professional Ethics Council

NITO BFI's Professional Ethics Council (YER) advises and guides the organisation and individual members on professional ethics issues, and assists NITO BFI's professional board in its work to raise awareness of professional ethics and ethical dilemmas for biomedical laboratory scientists.   

The Professional Ethics Council (YER) is an independent, advisory body in NITO BFI. The Professional Ethics Council is elected every three years by NITO BFI's members.

The Council also collaborates with NITO's Ethics Committee.

Mandate for NITO BFI's Council on Professional Ethics

The council's tasks are as follows:

  • Keeping up to date on important issues related to ethics. You are also expected to follow the media and at your own workplace on your own initiative
  • Write about two articles for the ethics column in the journal Bioingeniøren
  • Provide input to consultations from NITO
  • Creating newsletters for the ethics network
  • Plan and carry out BFI courses in ethics
  • Visiting workplaces and campuses with the ethics game
  • Lecture on topics related to ethics
  • Process questions from members
  • Raise current issues for discussion
  • Front issues in the media in agreement with the chair of the professional board and the secretariat

Information for those who want to stand for election to NITO BFI's Professional Ethics Council

The Department of Biomedical Laboratory Sciences needs committed and willing biomedical laboratory technicians like you! Here's some information you need if you're considering running for office.

Meetings
The Professional Ethics Council (YER) has 4-6 meetings a year. In addition, they participate with ethics games or features at companies or on courses under the auspices of other committees.  

Venue
Most meetings are held in the NITO meeting center in Støperigata 1, Oslo. Some of the meetings are digital.

Information about the electoral system
The Professional Ethics Council is elected by and among the department's members for three years at a time by postal ballot or ballot. A referendum can be carried out electronically. A separate election is held for the chair and three council members, as well as one deputy member.

All members of the department can submit proposals for candidates for the Professional Ethics Council. To be nominated for election, proposals for the same candidate must come from at least two of the department's members.

Written proposals for candidates are sent to the Academic Board no later than four months before the election. All nominated candidates are presented in Bioingeniøren. Members of the Professional Ethics Council may not at the same time be members of advisory committees or the professional board of NITO BFI.

Time off from employer
NITO BFI expects you to be given time off from your employer to participate in the meetings of the Professional Ethics Council. It is important that both you and your employer have a realistic picture of how many days you will be absent from work in connection with the position. You should therefore clarify your absence and whether you will be able to take paid time off with your employer. Section 26 of the main agreement between SAN and Spektrum regulates this.

Travel and accommodation costs for meetings
The Department of Biomedical Laboratory Sciences covers travel and accommodation when you attend meetings.

Costs for courses and conferences
The Department of Biomedical Laboratory Sciences, by agreement, covers travel and participation fees for courses and conferences that are relevant to the position.

Fee
Members of the Professional Ethics Council do not receive a fee for their duties.
