Committed union representatives from NITO applaud at a central collective bargaining conference, ready for this year's wage settlement.

Central collective bargaining conferences

Every year, NITO gathers union representatives from all over the country for central collective bargaining conferences, an important meeting place ahead of the wage settlement. The next time is March 10 - 11, 2026. Here you can read more about what is happening and how you can join.

What is a central collective bargaining conference?

A central collective bargaining conference is NITO's largest and most important gathering for union representatives ahead of the annual wage negotiations. Here, around 350 union representatives from all collective bargaining areas – private, municipality, state, Spektrum and Samfunnsbedriftene – meet to prepare for this year's settlement.

The conference provides a unique opportunity to gain a good understanding of the financial framework, discuss common challenges and opportunities, and share experiences with other union representatives.

What topics are addressed?

Although the program varies from year to year, there are some themes that are central to the conferences. The goal is to give you as a union representative a solid basis for being able to contribute to local negotiations and to the general debate on pay and working conditions. Typical topics will be:

  • Socio-economic outlook: A review of the macroeconomic perspectives that form the basis for the wage settlement.
  • Labour market policy: Discussions on relevant topics such as pensions, working time arrangements and the framework for negotiations.
  • The role of union representative: Topics such as freedom of expression, negotiation strategies, and how best to represent the members.
  • Sector-specific challenges: After a joint introduction, the conference is divided into parallel sessions for the various tariff areas, where the issues that are most relevant to your sector are discussed in depth.

Who can participate?

To participate in a central collective bargaining conference, you must be appointed as a representative from your local NITO branch, agency or group group. Each department and group has a certain number of places based on the number of members. In addition, central collective bargaining committees and the Executive Board participate.

If you are interested in participating, please contact your local branch, group or agency group to register your interest well in advance. They register their appointed representatives by 16 January 2026.
