Norway is facing an announced skills crisis: We need more engineers and technologists to succeed with the green transition and to ensure the competitiveness of the future, but fewer and fewer young people are choosing science subjects in school. Why is interest in science failing?

Is the Norwegian school a science laggard?

NITO and NHO invite to a debate and ask:

  • What makes young people in Norway opt out of science subjects?
  • Do we need to rethink the grading system?
  • What can we learn from Finland, Denmark and Sweden, which have managed to increase interest in science among young people?
  • And how can we ignite the spark for science subjects – especially among girls?

In the panel

  • Safina de Klerk

Visepresident i NITO og leder av Vitensenteret ved Teknisk Museum i Oslo

  • Rebekka Borsch

Avdelingsdirektør for kompetanse og innovasjon i NHO

  • Sentrale politikere på utdanningsfeltet

  • Arne Vatnøy

Kommunikasjonssjef i NITO og ordstyrer for debatten
