Safe to travel in nature?

Andrew Jenkins, professor, USN Bø

Tick researcher Andrew Jenkins gives an overview of the tick's life, the infectious agents it carries and what can be done to avoid it. Why are ticks carriers of infection? How dangerous is it? How do we avoid it? The tick feeds exclusively on blood that it sucks from various animals. It is dependent on this blood meal to further develop to the next stage in its life cycle, but infectious agents can follow and thus be transferred to the tick's next host.

Why do Lithium-ion batteries start to burn?

Mathias Henriksen, Associate Professor, USN Porsgrunn

Most modern electric devices or electric motorized devices use lithium-ion batteries as an energy source. Everything from small electronics such as mobile phones, tablets to electric passenger cars and ferries. When lithium-ion batteries become damaged, abused, or have manufacturing defects, it can begin to produce toxic and flammable gas. This process is often very violent and fast, and can therefore quickly have major consequences.
