Kirsten Flagstad
Join us on an exciting visit to Kirsten Flagstad Museum and get an insight into her fantastic life and musical journey – from growing up in Hamar to the biggest opera stages in the world, including The Metropolitan Opera in New York. She is considered one of the most famous opera singers of the 1900s and is particularly known for her interpretations of Richard Wagner's operas.
Kirsten Flagstad was born in Kirkegata in the middle of Hamar city center and had her heyday in 1935 to 1941 when she was one of the world's highest paid and most sought-after singers.
Later she became the first director of the Norwegian Opera.

In her footsteps
The museum is part of a digital women's history walk in Hamar. "In her footsteps" is an outreach project that highlights the important women who have lived here. Signs with QR codes have been set up around Hamar that can be scanned with smartphones and that provide more information about the women from the area and their work. At the museum you will find such a sign that provides information about Kirsten Flagstad's importance in history.
The Museum Garden
Kirsten Flagstad had a great interest in gardens and plants, and the museum garden outside the museum is inspired by how Kirsten planted her gardens. Here you can get an insight into what plants Kirsten had in her garden.
During the visit, there will be an opportunity to take a look in the garden around the museum.
