NITO renews partnership with Engineers Without Borders (EWB)

NITO continues its support as a gold partner. Through the collaboration, NITO supports projects that provide clean water, energy and education to people in vulnerable areas. This partnership shows how technological and engineering expertise can contribute to tangible improvements in quality of life worldwide.

Technological solutions for a better world

Engineers Without Borders is known for its work on innovative projects that solve critical challenges around the world. Among EWB-DK's many projects we find:

  • Gaza Energy Initiative: EWB-DK supports the reconstruction of energy supply in Gaza by developing scalable solar energy solutions, strengthening local expertise in solar energy and helping to restore power access and critical infrastructure for the population.
  • Safe water supply in northwest Syria: EWB-DK has established a locally produced water filtration system powered by solar energy, which now supplies 40,000 people in the Azaz district with safe drinking water. The project has strengthened local expertise, carried out hygiene training and laid the foundation for scaling the solution to reach up to 400,000 people.
  • STEM Without Borders: EWB-DK and Forskerfabrikken collaborate to strengthen STEM teaching based on practical and exploratory pedagogy. The project has so far reached five schools in Kenya, and inspired both teachers and students to develop creative thinking and interest in science. Work is now underway to scale to 34 schools in East Africa.

These projects show how engineering expertise can play a crucial role in improving the quality of life for people in vulnerable situations.

Collaboration that makes a difference

Egil Thompson, Secretary General of NITO, expresses great enthusiasm for the continued collaboration:

- Through the collaboration with EWB-DK, we get the opportunity to use our shared commitment to technology to make a difference for people who really need it. EWB-DK's work is living proof of how technology and knowledge can contribute to a more just and sustainable world. We are proud to continue as a partner and support this important work.

Secretary General of Engineers Without Borders, Marianne Nilsen Sturmair, emphasizes how important the collaboration with NITO, among others, is for EWB-DK to be able to do its job:

"We are a small organization that will accomplish great things, and the fact that NITO is on the team is crucial for us to be able to continue the work we do. Our partnerships are the foundation of all the work we do.

She is clear about what happens if such collaborations and new agreements do not materialize:

"If we don't have partners and new agreements, we have to scale down what we do, and then we reach fewer people. We greatly appreciate NITO's support and commitment, which means that we can continue our humanitarian engineering efforts and build solutions that provide more people with clean water, electricity and safe infrastructure.
