NITO BFI's specialist approval for biomedical laboratory technicians

A further education opportunity for you who are a biomedical laboratory technician and a member of NITO BFI.

Specialist approval is a scheme for formalising, documenting and building competence.

About NITO BFI's specialist approval scheme

The specialist scheme was established in 2008 and is administered by the NITO Institute of Biomedical Laboratory Sciences, NITO BFI, in accordance with established guidelines prepared by NITO BFI's scientific board. The Scientific Board has appointed a specialist committee to assess biomedical laboratory technicians who apply for specialist approval.

Authorised biomedical laboratory technicians who meet the requirements for specialist approval will, following a decision by the specialist committee, be given the title Biomedical laboratory technician with specialist approval and be issued a separate approval document.

Advice to the candidate with regard to specialisation and the application process is provided by NITO BFI's secretariat in collaboration with the specialist committee.

The purpose of specialist approval

Targeted investment in competence development is important to meet current and future needs for competence. The scheme is a supplement to a master's degree and is intended to legitimise that the biomedical laboratory technician has the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills beyond the bachelor's level within the relevant specialist area.

The specialist pathway is designed based on the individual biomedical laboratory technician and the workplace's need for expertise. Specialist approval can be applied for within traditional laboratory specialties, but also within methodology, diagnostic groups or administrative methods.
