Working life and competitiveness for the future
In order to secure Norwegian jobs and strengthen Norway's position as an industrial nation, we need a policy that combines a safe and organized working life, a fair wage development and access to power
- NITO works to ensure both working conditions and framework conditions that make it attractive to create, invest and work in Norway.
Competitiveness and a fair transition for the future of work
Norway's ability to create green jobs and maintain its industrial strength rests on access to power, technological expertise and a secure working life. NITO works for a fair framework that provides motivation for individuals – and competitiveness for society as a whole.
The Norwegian model provides competitiveness
The Norwegian model is a competitive advantage. A well-organised working life contributes to high productivity and a low level of conflict. The Norwegian model provides predictability for companies and security for employees. To preserve this model, you must:
- well-functioning schemes such as early retirement pension and sick pay are further developed
- The trade union deduction will be strengthened in line with wage growth
NITO defends the model and works to ensure that it is further developed in the face of green and digital transition.
Fair pay for high competence
Engineers and technologists are crucial to succeed in the green transition. NITO believes that competence should pay off. Nevertheless, we see that wage growth for our groups is not always commensurate with the responsibility and value they create. NITO works for a fair wage development that ensures recruitment and motivation – and that recognises the expertise required to develop the solutions of the future.
Power for value creation
A secure power supply is crucial for the competitiveness of the future. If Norway is to succeed in cutting emissions, safeguarding industry and at the same time building new green industries, we must:
- ensure increased production of renewable energy
- ensure faster development of the power grid to strengthen local capacity and avoid bottlenecks
- further develop green and sustainable technologies such as wind power, solar energy and nuclear power
NITO believes that the authorities must take a more active role in power planning and prioritise power for industry, technology development and jobs throughout the country.
Climate and environment
NITO supports Norway's climate goals and the commitments of the Paris Agreement. To achieve the goal of a low-emission society by 2050, clear plans and a just transition are needed that safeguard both value creation and jobs. Engineers and technologists play a key role in developing solutions that reduce emissions.
- Nature considerations must be integrated into climate and energy policy
- Loss of biodiversity and land encroachment must be limited through better planning processes and knowledge-based decisions
