Specialist approval for biomedical laboratory scientists: What is required?

To obtain the title "Biomedical laboratory technician with specialist approval", you must be an authorised biomedical laboratory technician and a member of NITO BFI. In addition, you must meet the requirements set out in the department's guidelines for specialist approval.

Here there are requirements for relevant professional practice, dissemination of expertise, continuing and further education, as well as a written specialization assignment within your specialist area.

Maintain your specialist approval

We want you to continue to stay updated on what is going on in the field with courses, conferences, lectures or teaching. Applications for renewed approval must be made after five years. This time limit ensures the quality of updated knowledge and practice.

Hvor lang tid det tar å bli spesialist avhenger blant annet av hvor lenge du har jobbet innenfor området du vil søke spesialistgodkjenning.

Du må på søketidspunktet kunne dokumentere minimum tre års praksis innen relevant fagområde. Det betyr at en nyutdannet bioingeniør vil bruke minimum tre år på å ta en spesialisering.

Kan du forvente lønnstillegg for spesialistgodkjenning?

Flere arbeidsgivere i Spekter Helse-området gir nå et årlig lønnstillegg til bioingeniører med spesialistgodkjenning. Tillegget ligger vanligvis på mellom 20.000 og 25.000 kroner i året, men det finnes lokale variasjoner. NITO mener at kompetanseheving generelt bør gi grunnlag for en ny lønnsvurdering.
